Valencia/Vigo, January 18, 2023.- Grupo Segura and Plastic Omnium have reached an agreement under which the Valencia-based multinational acquires Plastic Omnium’s Vigo division dedicated to metal stamping and assembly.
The transaction was completed in December and became effective on January 1, 2023, in line with Grupo Segura’s strategy of pursuing inorganic growth.
The business unit acquired by Grupo Segura specializes in metal stamping and assembly operations. As a result of this acquisition, 118 employees (both permanent and temporary) will join the Group. Following the integration, Grupo Segura will employ more than 1,100 people across its facilities in Vigo, Valencia, and Hungary.
According to Grupo Segura, “the establishment of operations in Vigo through the acquisition of this Plastic Omnium division will allow us to expand our customer portfolio and supply our products to the Stellantis Group.” The company also stated that “as part of the initiatives included in its strategic plan, Grupo Segura is pursuing inorganic growth opportunities aimed at expanding its customer base and revenue, moving closer to customers’ production facilities, and leveraging the organizational structure developed over recent years to successfully implement this initiative.”
Grupo Segura’s National Footprint
This expansion into Galicia will provide Grupo Segura with direct access to Stellantis, which, according to the company’s own figures, holds a 23% market share in Spain and 21% across Europe’s main automotive markets. It also enables Segura to strengthen its manufacturing footprint across Spain and supply components to leading automotive manufacturers nationwide. As a result, components can be supplied from its Valencia plant to Stellantis factories in Madrid and Zaragoza, from the newly acquired Vigo facility to the Stellantis plant in Vigo, and, of course, to Ford from its Valencia operations.
In addition, the acquisition will foster collaboration between Segura and Plastic Omnium on projects requiring metal components, an area in which the Valencia-based company has extensive expertise.
Plastic Omnium described the transaction as “part of Plastic Omnium’s strategy to focus its Clean Energy Systems Division on its core business, namely the production of plastic fuel systems for the automotive industry.”
